If you haven't read Sedaris yet, it's worth a read. If you have... maybe wait.
Summary:
A nonfiction collection of deadpan essays chronicling the life and off-key, helter-skelter observations of author David Sedaris.
Verdict: 5/10
I have learned a valuable lesson: don’t read two nonfiction books by the same author within a span of two months.
Sedaris’ stories which I had earlier found charming and unique had lost their brilliance. My new-found familiarity with his style made his personal life seem less and less clever.
As one friend put it, you can only read about someone else’s anecdotes for so long before it starts to sound self-centered. Definitely true for biographical essays.
If I had waited maybe a year to revisit Sedaris’ writing, I may have enjoyed it more. It was a decent read with some funny moments. At this moment, however, I found that the once hilarious storytelling had overstayed its welcome and become unamusing.
If you haven’t read Sedaris yet, it’s definitely worth a try.
Side Note:
Would not recommend the barbie cover. People will give you odd looks, especially if you're reading it near a school or church. For your reputation and the peace of mind of those around you, go with the peacock cover.
